TORC CÉILÍ CLUB
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT DO CLASSES COST?
Classes are $18 each. We have Tap and Go facilities and accept single or bulk class payments.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Our classes can be quite energetic so wear casual and comfortable clothing and shoes. Shoes with leather soles and a heel are recommended for Sean Nós or second hand tap shoes will work well for hearing the beats of the steps. Bring a pair of runners or Irish Dancing shoes if you already have some.
DO I NEED A PARTNER?
No you definitely don't need to bring a partner. The dances that we teach often mean dancing with multiple people in our class. We have dancers that perform both 'male' and 'female' positions so everyone will get the opportunity to dance. We are a very welcoming group and it is a great way to make new friends.
DO I NEED ANY PREVIOUS DANCE EXPERIENCE?
No experience required. We have a variety of dances that can be done by complete beginners and more experienced dancers. We will break down the steps with full instructions, we will teach you the names of the steps/movements and we will call the steps out while you are dancing to music.
DO I NEED TO BE FIT FOR THESE CLASSES?
No, but some fitness helps. You will find that you will have some aches and pains after your first class or even if you have taken a break for a while but the fitness improves very quickly. It is a great way to exercise while having fun and challenging your brain!
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING ALONG?
The Irish Club will supply us with water but you may want to bring a water bottle and some people bring a small towel especially in summer. We stay for dinner and a drink after class to support the Irish Club so you may want to hang around and make some new friends.
WHO TEACHES THESE CLASSES?
The Director of Torc Céilí Club is Caroline McCarthy. Caroline has lived in Australia for nearly 10 years now, originally coming from Co.Kerry, Ireland. Caroline is a qualified Irish Dancing teacher (TCRG) with the organisation An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG). We may have assistant teachers or workshop teachers in our school from time to time. These teachers will all be suitable qualified and will have completed Child Protection courses as well having a Working With Children Check.
WHY IS THE SCHOOL CALLED TORC CEILI CLUB?
Torc (pronouced Tork) is named after one of Caroline's favourite places - Torc Mountain. Overlooking the lakes of Killarney it is truly breathtaking! We are a Céilí Club as opposed to a school of Irish Dancing as this is a non-competitive school, simply coming together to partake in Irish Dancing for fun, the culture and making new friends.
